Photoshop Tutorials:

In this picture I changed the hair color  from blonde to pink by creating a new "soft light" layer and shading in the the areas I wanted to change color with the color tools.

In this picture I changed the eye color from brown to purple by using the pen tool and the hue and saturation adjustment tool.

In this tutorial I learned how to create a background using different paintbrush styles and the color tools in Photoshop from a blank canvas.

Name Project :

For the name project we were instructed to go outisde and find things that resmbled the letters in our names and to be creative!  During this project we learned how to see things with a different perspective.

Teacher Creature :

In this project we were asked to make an Animas High School teacher into a creature based on a survey we had the teachers take. We worked in photoshop extensively to create a new landscape as well as a new face for our creature. We also made sure to incoperate other things that may not exist in a realistic landscape, just for fun. The hardest part of this project was trying to make the features of the teacher and the creature create a seamless image. To persevere I used a lot of pacients as well as some new tools our teacher taught us to use in Photoshop. Eventally, I was extremely proud of what I had created. My favorite part of this project was being able to create something using imagination and creativity. It gave us the chance to really think outside of the box and express ourselves, which is very unique in a high school class. I also enjoyed being silly with this project and creating something that we would like to see in the real world even if it is completely rediculous and irrelevant. After creating this project I have come to realize I am not the best at using Phptoshop. Mostly due to lack of experience. However, I've also realized how much you can do and the endless possiblities of digital art.

Artist Statement-

Through my art I express the drama and exaggeration I see in the world. Its shows who I am and what I believe in. I am first of all dramatic, living in a world full of drama how could I not be? However, it also shows my optimism for the future and the purity of so many things.  I live my life purely and creatively as I hope to portray in my art. No matter what, my young heart and spirit grows and learns and makes me realize how much the world has to offer.  When that spirit goes away the world is nothing but a dull world full of uninteresting organisms. I have an undying love for the outdoors and fashion. However my style is different from the rest. It's unique as am I and as is my art. Enjoy!

Reflection-

I chose the subject of a deer for my Pre Historic art piece because I found it fitting for these specific ages. This is because this era was a time of hunting and gathering, and what do you hunt more than deer? To create this drawing I used a lot of creatvity and imagination to find my inner artist, which was burried deep inside of myself. I also used the handouts Roxy had provided us with in order for us to base our drawings off of something real. Obviously, image trace was a bit of a struggle because of the lightness of my drawing.  It did not show up well when it came to the color of the paper compared to the color of my pencil. However, in the end I chose to look at it as more of an artistic flare rather than a mistake. I can see myself using this technique in the future for things like the political cartoon.  I found it helpful when making my work look more professional and refined.  Also, it was helpful for things like speech bubbles or faces in need of repair.  One thing I found frusterating when working in Illustrator was the fact your drawings really had to fit the criteria of the program. For example, if your shading was too light it would often times not show up on the paper and if the shading was too dark it would black spots covering your drawing. This was a constant struggle expecially when it came to intricate details and drawing methods (shading vs. cross hatching)

Blackfish Political Cartoon:

Reflection-

In this specific political cartoon I am really trying to express the ugliness, if you will, of the huge corporation of Seaworld. I did this not only through the message I chose but also through the drawing style of my art piece. To expand, you can see that the jail cell the whale is held looks as though it is falling apart to represent how unacceptable  these enclosures really are. Also, you can see that the Seaworld employee doesn't have a face. My reason behind this is often times the employees don't understand what is being done or what the are being told to say, which I learned in the Blackfish documentary. It is almost as if they are "Seaworld robots". Overall, I'd say that I used Illustrator and drawing techniques to create a dirty, cruel environment for my political cartoon.

While political cartoons are entertaining, they can also be very moving or informative to an audience.  This can bring awareness to a current issue in a quick and friendly way. I feel that besides political cartoons, you can also express an opinion artistically in many other ways. For example posters, comics, graphics in newspapers, street art and many other ways are all ways to express opinions and bring awareness to any topic the artist feels needs to be addressed.

By creating art you can create anything, and I mean anything, even if it doesn't make sense. Like this political cartoon may not make any sense to a person who doesn't know what the documentary Blackfish is. They also may not know what it is if I don't explain it to them as the artist. That's the thing though, they don't need to understand as long as I understand.  This is very different from viewing art because when people view art they can interpret whatever they want it to mean. What I mean by that is the difference between the two is that it is really just a matter of a difference in opinion. The artist has a set idea in their head and that's how the artist sees the work. Whereas the viewers may have a different idea than the artist or than the person standing next to them. That's the beauty of art, it doesn't matter how you see it, all that matters is that you see something.

Video Project:

Project Description-

I have always wanted to do a video project on mountain biking because it is my one true passion, what I am good at, and what makes me happy. With no one else in my grade as obsessed with biking as much as I am, it was hard to find a group willing to do it with me. So when I found a group willing to incorporate it into their film about happiness, our project skyrocketed from there. In fact, it was even better than my original idea. There was a lot that we needed to incorporate into the film with little time and energy. The things that helped us persevere throughout the project, I'd say, was the rubrics and the ideas from last years classes. It was really inspiring to see what our videos could turn out to be.

Project Reflection-

How is art used in everyday life?

Art is used in everyday life for expression of individuals. Especially through advertisements and art like street art. In both these examples, it is inspiring someone to go and do something. Whether it is buying a product or using one's individual creativity.

How and why is art used as a vehicle for           communication?

Art is used for communication because it is appealing to the audience and it draws attention to the product, service or otherwise.  An example of this communication could be something like a billboard, a poster, some flyer, or even an invitation for a birthday. It is a fun and unique way to share information.

What problem solving skills are employed in making works of art?

Making art is a constant event of trial and error nothing's ever perfect until the artist is satisfied with the latest inspired change. In order to be an artist you have to be ok with change and error and a unique creative process. In saying this, the most important problem solving skill is having an image in your head and being able to change it under the circumstances. It is so important to be flexible.

Why do artist produce Preliminary Plans?

I think that artists produce these plans because it is a way to inspire themselves and take one small idea and turn it into something that is a realistic action. It also helps them to figure out all of the logistics of their art to make sure it will be successful.

How does Material Culture influence artistic decisions?

Material Culture influences these decisions because it is necessary to appeal to the audience/ buyer. Even though it may be their own personal expression it is still important to conform to some modern standards. Especially if the artist is trying to make a living off of their artwork.
