El Raro que soy- 

El raro que soy reflection- 

 

In this project we wrote letters to penpals in Mexico. We had to describe ourselves, our families. Then we put our ideas and interests into an art piece. One important skill I learned throughout the duration of this project was how to start conjugating. This is so important to create a foundation of Spanish. It is also very important for the sake of travel. My ability to describe people improved because I learned when to use tengo and when to use estar. My art describes “beautiful work” because it took a lot of refinement and effort but most importantly, I am very proud of the work I did to create my art piece. Yet, if I had an opportunity to do it again, I would change the fact that I cut it out and put it on background paper. I think that it looks very busy, instead of being clean and focusing on the words which are essentially the whole purpose of the project.  

 

 

 

Dia De los Muertos-

Project Reflection- For this project and exhibition we tried to replicate what it was like to be in a spanish culture for the Day of the Dead. We created “obituaries” of loved ones for a replica of a memorial altar. We also created traditional calaveras or poems, essentially mocking death. Calaveras tell a story by describing an event or a person either as a skeleton or turning into a skeleton at the end of the story. As we are only beginning to learn spanish, we wrote multiple drafts of our calaveras in order to fix spelling, sentence structure, grammar and everything else, in the beginning. We had a lot of help from our teachers and wrote at least 5 drafts, changing a lot of our original ideas. In the end I was really proud of my final project. In addition to creating beautiful work, I also became way more aware of spanish customs in the area of dia de los muertos. I learned that in that culture they find death to be a “good thing”. As well as being very open and comical with the loss of loved ones and “terms of endearment” for friends and family. I think that this project was very important for the progression of our Spanish not only by speaking the language but also for becoming culturally aware for future opportunities.

Calavera 1: la calavera del esquiador- 

Un esquiador está congelado al hueso en la nieve fria y copiesa. Los árboles y piedras no están evidentes al esquiador. Empieza el descenso tambaleante. Hasta que el esqueleto del esquiador se cae in la nieve implacable. Aqui esta para eternidad. Sus huesos blancos y deperlas están escondidos e la nieve.  El esquiador calavera nunca está visto otra vez. 

Calavera 2: LA calavera de Shakira- 

Shakira es una icona de elegancia y belleza. Baila con mucha pasion que ella se queda con solamente un esqueleto. Ella antenda cantar pero todo que occura es la repiquetea de su costilla. Ella baila con desgracia y es insoportable al ojo.  

El PRoyecto De La Biografia- 

In the Proyecto de la Biografía, we were asked to research and recreate the lives of influential people from Hispanic culture. We created art that represented their life legacy as well as creating a script, in Spanish, also describing their life.  The most challenging part about this project was using the past tense to describe the subjects we chose. I was surprised when I was able to master what verb tenses I did know. Often times I doubted whether or not I knew the correct endings to the verb or whether or not I should talk in Imperfect or Preterite. Despite a few mistakes in the beginning, I feel confident in speaking in the past tense.  In addition, I feel my pronunciation and speaking get stronger everyday. I definitely feel that this project was very worthwhile and helped me a lot in the long run.
